What would be the best way to paint a paper-finish entertainment center?

jasarile asked:

My entertainment center has been dinged up some and I’d like to try painting it…the only snag is that it is press board with a paper finish. Is it possible to paint it without it peeling? If I sand it will it make the paint adhere or just shred the paper finish? Thanks everyone.

Is there anyway to dye or paint a particle board entertainment center?

thenadamgoes asked:

I have a particle board entertainment center that I got from Ikea. When I got it all my furniture was Beech veneer. The light color with a wood grain look.

Well now all my furniture is much much darker, but I haven’t found an entertainment center that I like as much as this one.

Is there anyway to dye or paint this to a darker color but still keep some of the wood grain?

Has anyone tried this? Any tips?

It is more vertical than horizontal. It has many smallish compartments and even drawers. The small T.V. only barely fits into the biggest space. Is this piece of furniture called a home entertainment center? It looks more like a dresser. What is another word for it?

We have beautiful new entertainment center with pedestals on each side of the TV, which have two glass shelves, and glass doors encasing it. I am trying to find good ideas for decorating, like what to put on shelves, as well as on top of the whole unit.
