Is there anyway to dye or paint a particle board entertainment center?

thenadamgoes asked:

I have a particle board entertainment center that I got from Ikea. When I got it all my furniture was Beech veneer. The light color with a wood grain look.

Well now all my furniture is much much darker, but I haven’t found an entertainment center that I like as much as this one.

Is there anyway to dye or paint this to a darker color but still keep some of the wood grain?

Has anyone tried this? Any tips?

use a good wood primer first……

use a primer or lightly sand the item so the paint will stick.
particle board does not have a real grain so don’t try that.

    good luck

    Best suggestion:

    Kilz it.
    Paint it.
While paint is still wet, use one of those faux finishing brushes that makes a woodgrain pattern.

Get a dark color wood polish. You will find it on the polish/cleaner aisle of the grocery store. Wipe it on like stain and then wipe the residue off after a while. It worked on my kitchen cabinets which are a mixture of real and fake wood.

    Just paint it.
If it’s fake wood grain, you can’t dye it.

PS. you might have to sand it a bit so the paint doesn’t peel.

Go to Home Depot, Lowes or a paint store and ask an expert. Take a piece of the entertainment center with you if you can. There are transparent stains out there so you might be able to do something with it. Anyway ask an expert.
